Welcome to the

Northern Student-led Arctic Research program

A science outreach and research experience program for Manitoba Youth led by Kelvin High School

About the program

Kelvin High School has created the NorthSTAR program, together with Dr. Jane Waterman from the University of Manitoba. The program has expanded to include the Junior Canadian Rangers from Churchill and Gillam and students from Nelson McIntyre Collegiate and Elmwood High School. The Northern Student-led Arctic Research Program engages high school students in conducting research on the behaviour, health, and survival of wild polar bears during a fall field trip to Churchill, Manitoba. Students are trained in data collection (from the safety of tundra buggies) and analysis techniques, and also learn how to communicate their field experiences and results of the project through social media, scientific conferences and posters.
